Over the last two Sundays I have been running a workshop at the Queensland Art Gallery for 4 - 12 year olds. The kids were invited to make drawings without pencils or paint; to draw with light and shadow, using white paper, scissors and glue. I have had a lot of fun; here are the results from last Sunday (including a few examples made by myself:
My new louvre windows, in anticipation of a summer breeze.
Off-cutts from bale, around about and pieces of alabaster awaiting their turn for transformation into ???
Work has begun on the first of four parts that make up 'openended' a piece that is to be installed into the third floor lounge area of the new Ipswich Courthouse late February 2009. The first part has 348 pieces.
To everyone who came on Friday night to see the work, wish me well and enjoy the wine, thank you very much. Both Ian Friend and I were suprised to see so many people. To those who coundn't be there I hope you enjoy these images of the show. INSIDEOUT will run until the 25th of October and I will be in the gallery every Saturday until then.
INSIDEOUT is hung and so far receiving favourable attention. I am very pleased to be showing alongside Ian Friend's beautiful works on paper, there are some interesting parallels between the two shows. I am very much looking forward to the opening on Friday the 10th
2008 has been a busy year (and it's not over yet), much to my surprise I have found time to make work for a solo exhibition alongside the public works I have been grappling with.

This work has been complete for a few weeks now but I wanted it to have a title before I posted it to this blog, I am very pleased with its complexity, two interwoven pieces (they move independently), mirror images of each other, forever inseperable.
'the missing link' 2008, stainless steel welded mesh, 193 X 105 X 79cm (for those who were worried I had lost my sense of humour, or was that just me?)
I am very happy to announce that Queensland University of Technology will be acquiring Imperfect pattern XLVII (and Openended Part 1) for thier collection. Also Imperfect Pattern XLVI is currently on loan for 'The Great Divide' an exhibition at Artisan (formerly Craft Queensland) Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley running until the end of August.
'ONCE, AGAIN' proposal for public work, 15 meters x 3.5 meters, powdercoated aluminium. This work is a long way from certain (four artists are submitting for this job) but I am hopeful.
